Activities

Activities are an important part of every day for residents and staff at Coloma Court. There are two coordinators at the home who plan activities every week. Activities are designed to be stimulating and engaging for all the residents in the home. Engaging with activities is vital for both the physical and mental health and well-being of residents, this is why we encourage everyone to join in. From light exercises to a range of arts and crafts, our team discuss the schedule with residents and tailor it to suit them.

Regular activities in the home include bingo sessions, scrabble, quizzes, crafts, exercises, and many other individual games as well as film screenings. There are also music tapes and CDs available for residents to enjoy. Outside the home, residents can enjoy walks in the grounds and visits to local parks and garden centres. We have an attractive rose garden with a summerhouse and woodland area to the rear of the building.

We frequently welcome Musicians and performers to our home, on average coming eight times a month. Residents at the home have recently enjoyed:

Singers and musicians (pianists, violinist, accordionist); karaoke; magician; a ‘Musicals of Broadway’ show. Relatives and friends are always welcome to visit and participate in the life of the home.

How do we choose our activities?

When our residents join the home, we take the time to get to know their interests, both past and present. Their interests then inform the structure of  the activities taking place within Coloma Court. When we plan activities we try to make them accessible to as many people as possible. At the same time, we try to keep activities as varied and stimulating as we can.

Taking part – do I have to?

We will always encourage residents to try new things, however, we never make anyone take part. We fully understand that sometimes people don’t want to join in. We offer a range of individual activities for those who like something more solitary, or one to one – from reading together to jigsaws, or simply a cup of tea and a chat.

Getting out and about

Coloma Court care home has a mini bus that is adapted to accommodate wheelchairs. This allows us to take residents to hospital appointments or on outings to local places of interest. All trips out of the home are accompanied by trained care staff.
