HMT Sancta Maria to Launch New Podiatry Service

HMT Sancta Maria is launching a new podiatry service today, as part of the ongoing commitment to provide the best range of treatments to patients.

Aimed at preventing, diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating conditions found in the foot, ankle and lower limbs, podiatry has proven to be a life-changing procedure for many of those who suffer.

The service will be provided by Tom Cooper, Clinical Director of ACE Feet in Motion. ACE are specialists in the treatment of many common, chronic and acute conditions affecting the lower limbs including:

  • Heel Pain
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Achilles Tendinopathy
  • Metatarsalgia
  • Shin Pain and Calf Pain
  • Knee, Hip and Back Pain

With twelve years experience in podiatric medicine, Tom has established clinics in Pontypridd, Cardiff, Bristol, Bath and Chippenham. His experience and state-of-the-art pressure plate technology, means that HMT Sancta Maria will now be able to offer the level of expert analysis on posture, running styles and walking styles which have helped him transform the sporting careers of several high-profile clients such as Ospreys star Rhys Webb, current boxer and IBF World Featherweight Champion Lee Selby and former Wales rugby captain Ryan Jones.

“I had reached the stage when even walking the dog had become painful, now I can function fine – for which I’m incredibly grateful,” said former Wales rugby star Ryan Jones after seeking podiatric advice from Tom’s team at ACE.

Hospital Director, Stuart Hammond, said HMT Sancta Maria is delighted to work with a specialist of Tom’s calibre: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to provide our patients with expert advice and treatment from one of the country’s leading Podiatrists. Demand for podiatry services is increasing and we are delighted to welcome Tom and his team on board.

“The feedback Tom has had from so many of his clients, including high profile sporting icons, is proof itself of how vital podiatric treatment has been for those suffering with foot, ankle and lower limb ailments.”

And while Tom’s expertise is something that will be beneficial for patients at HMT Sancta Maria, he is equally thrilled to be expanding his clinical capacity by working alongside the hospitals’ highly qualified consultants: “We have worked in Swansea for the past eight years on a small scale and demand had become too great for our current clinical capacity. Having already worked closely with some of the Orthopaedic Consultants at Sancta Maria it was clear that this was a site for clinical excellence. For our company it was the only option for expansion in the Swansea area.”
