National Cycling Championships
Sunday 28th June 2015
HMT is proud to support the 2015 National Cycling Championships, as part of HMT’s health promotional campaign and support of teams and events that include JLT Condor, Polypipe Cycling Team, NEL Go Ride and our very own HMT Academy. To read more about our health promotional activity, click here.
Taking place in and around Lincoln on 28th June 2015, we will host our Wattbike Competition in the Caste Square. Anyone can enter this superb event, and visitors will simply ride as fast as they can for 10 seconds to enter a prize draw for a signed JLT Condor Pro Team jersey. A leader board will be on display for those of a competitive nature to compare their efforts against others on the day.
The Men’s Road Race
We look forward to witnessing Team Sky’s Peter Kennaugh hit the road to defend his road race title, which he won in Monmouthshire last year. However, he faces tough competition, as Geraint Thomas, the Commonwealth Champion, Mark Cavendish, the former world Champion, and Simon Yates, an ORICA-green EDGE rider will all be on their bikes striving for the number one spot. Two previous winners will also be competing in the event: Russell Downing (CULT Energy Pro Cycling) and Scott Thwaites (Bora Argon 18).
The Women’s Road Race
Laura Trott, the defending champion, will return to the women’s road race this year, and will no doubt pick up her professional rivalry with Lizzie Armistead, an Olympic silver medallist who finished in third position in Abergavenny in 2014. Should Armistead be victorious, she will claim her third British road title in Lincoln; however, she will have to battle it out with the multiple Paralympic champion Dame Sarah Storey, Elinor Barker from Matrix Fitness and Katie Archibald, last year’s under 23 silver and bronze medallist.
Other competitors include Olympic track champion Joanna Rowsell (Matrix Fitness), former double junior world road race champion Lucy Garner (Liv-Plantur) and the current British Cycling Women’s Road Series leader Nicola Juniper (Giordana Triton).
Magna Vitae, a local charity who HMT have partnered with at our health seminars at the Meridian Centre in Louth, have organised this fantastic cycling event, which will see some of the greatest cyclists in the world compete for the coveted title. Following the National Cycling Championships, we will hold an additional seminar in early July.
