Ride with the Pros – 20th August 2016 – Postponed

Saturday 20th August 2016

We are sorry to postpone Ride with the Pros on 20th August due to a high level of wind, which could pose a health and safety risk to all participants.

The health of the community is a primary concern for the Healthcare Management Trust (HMT), which is why we regularly support and deliver a variety of sporting events. Our goal is to encourage the public to embrace exercise, offering fun days out that encourage them to enjoy physical activity.

HMT Sancta Maria will therefore offer the Swansea community another chance to ride alongside professional cyclists, as Ride with the Pros will return once again on 20th August 2016.The event will start and finish at the LC and refreshments will be provided once the ride is over, offering a selection of hot and cold drinks, as well as a few sweet nibbles.

Entry is free and all you will need is a roadworthy bike and suitable helmet. Feel free to bring the whole family along for the ride, as the cycling event is open to all ages and abilities – so you can all enjoy a fantastic day of exercising in the great outdoors.

As well as offering intermediate and advanced rides, novice cyclists can enjoy the family ride along the cycle path, riding from Mumbles and back.

JLT Condor’s Stevie Williams and Jon Mould will participate in the community event, and will be happy to chat once the ride is over. The event provides a unique opportunity to cycle alongside experienced athletes. HMT has an extensive history supporting various sporting clubs and events, such as JLT Condor and Podium Ambition.

In addition, HMT has also developed the HMT Cycling Team, which offers nutritional advice and medical support to British junior cyclists, with the aim of helping them develop their potential. HMT Sancta Maria also proudly supports the Gower Riders Cycling Club, providing cycling equipment to the youth cycle coaching club.

Tony Barrett, the Chief Executive of the Healthcare Management Trust (HMT), commented: “Cycling has been a great sport for us to support over recent years, and Ride with the Pros is a great example as to why. I can’t think of another sport where you can participate alongside some of the best cyclists in the world, whatever your fitness ability, and then return back to the cafe, where you can have a chat over a cup of tea. HMT has a long-term strategy to support health in the community, and we are seeing more people climb on a bike to get fit, recover from injury or just have fun.”

The rides:

  • Family ride – cycle path
  • Intermediate – 12-14 mph
  • Advanced – 15-18 mph

The rides will take between 1.5 and 2 hours to complete. Participants will meet at 9.15am, followed by a riders briefing at 9.45am. The rides will start at 10am and cyclists will make their return at approximately 12pm.
