Ride with the Pros – August 2016
Saturday 6th August 2016
At HMT, we strive to improve the health of the communities are hospitals operate. We firmly believe one of the best forms of exercise is cycling, which is why we regularly support various cycling events and clubs.
Cycling not only offers a superb method of transport for a rider, but it can significantly boost a person’s health and fitness levels. Exercising also doesn’t have to be boring, because cycling allows participants to enjoy the great outdoors.
To encourage the Grimsby community to pick up a bicycle, we are delighted to provide another opportunity for the public to ride alongside talented, experienced cyclists. Riders confirmed to attend include JLT Condor’s Russ Downing and Graham Briggs.
Ride with the Pros will take place at 9.30am on 6th August 2016 from HMT St Hugh’s Hospital and will finish at approximately 11am. The event is free to enter and the route is expected to be approximately 25km, and will be prepared by the NEL Lindsey Roads Cycling Club.
To participate in the ride, you must bring along a roadworthy bike and suitable helmet. All participants must also be capable of riding a 40km route. The ride is open to all ages and abilities, so we recommend bringing the whole family along for a fun and active day out in the great outdoors.
We will offer different routes to suit different abilities, so there is no reason why you can’t join us for a fun day out this August. Once the ride is over, cyclists can enjoy refreshments at our not for profit hospital.
We have a long-standing history in cycling, as we regularly support various professional athletes and clubs, such as JLT Condor and Podium Ambition. HMT has also developed the British junior cycling squad HMT Cycling Team, with the aim of developing a rider’s cycling potential. HMT St Hughs also supports the youth cycle coaching team Gower Riders, providing cycling equipment when required.
Tony Barrett, the Chief Executive of the Healthcare Management Trust (HMT), commented: “Cycling has been a great sport for us to support over recent years, and Ride with the Pros is a great example as to why. I can’t think of another sport where you can participate alongside some of the best cyclists in the world, whatever your fitness ability, and then return back to the cafe, where you can have a chat over a cup of tea. HMT has a long-term strategy to support health in the community, and we are seeing more people climb on a bike to get fit, recover from injury or just have fun.”
NEL Lindsey Go-Ride will plot the Ride with the Pros route. Club members will also be available during the ride to promote additional rides organised by the club – which is the perfect way to embrace cycling if you have enjoyed Ride with the Pros.
